    Default Car Rental in Ireland

Been planning a trip to Ireland but don't want to be stuck in one place. Looked at taking the nova via ferry but believe it or not it costs more to go by ferry than flying and hiring a car for the 5 days we are there.

Any think we should know about or be aware of when hiring a car?

if you are going to Dublin airport this might be some use. http://dublinairportcarrental.com/ if you are planning on driving the west coast is my favorite part and its just over a 2 hour drive from Dublin if you plan on driving that far. i used to always go to Galway city when younger and spent a good bit of time in Kerry which is south west.

We have looked and found some good car rent companys... what I need to know is things like how does insurance work, what happens if it breaks down any hidden costs. All that jazz.

They can provide insurance for you at as cost. If you take their insurance they should have breakdown cover etc included but I've never broken down in a rental car so have never had to avail of it. When I rent a car here I use my own insurance but not sure if they will allow it for a UK policy. Probably better to give them a bell and have a waffle with them first.

Dublin Airport have a couple of car rental placed in the terminal too. I've used Avis and Budget in the past with good prices. www.avis.ie or www.budget.ie

    hope this helps,
    Cónan

if you are using a certain popular irish airline with somewhat dubious customer service .... it sounds like brianair, to save me getting sued..., then get on their website & look for tie-in deals.. they have some pretty amazing rates for car hire & hotels because they block book loads of them. me & mrs went to a wedding there & the airliner had got 1/2 the rooms booked in the hotel & we ended up getting a crazy discount.. the Nissan almera hire car wasn't the best, but it got us about with no bother..

edit... also go round the hire car with a staff member & mark down all damage.. one at Dublin airport tried to blag 2 crunched wings with us..
