Default Power key not working on iphone 5.

The power key on my iPhone 5 has not been working for a few weeks. I've looked into it and it's a common hardware problem on iphone's and is covered under warranty, so Saturday just gone I took it in to my local o2 store to be repaired and left it with them.

Just checked my email... Yesterday I received an email from them saying it's not covered under warranty. Surely it should be covered as it's only just out of warranty (09/02/2014) and I've still got another year of contract. Any advice on what to say to get it repaired when I phone them later today?

I would try taking it to your local apple shop and see if they do it for free, worth a try anyway especially if it's a hardware problem.

Have you got phone insurance? I've got it with mine bank card.

If you don't then as Bazza said Apples your best bet, just take it in and down and don't mention the warranty.

Ironically this week my -vol button has packed in, it's not a software problem as I've done all the reset gubbins.
I've had iPhones since they came out and this is the first thing that's broken on me, I'm not bothered though as I can turn it down by swiping the popup screen.

If it's out of warranty period I'm sure they're not obliged to fix it for free

Southie, I have insurance with my bank. Will give them a try if no luck with o2.

Iain & Benn, the phone was in warranty when I left the phone with them (08/02/14) and has expired whilst with them.

Called them just now and they've quoted me £190. I asked how it's so much and why isn't it covered under warranty. They replied; before they open the phone to repair the power key, they have to replace the missing glass on the back. Missing glass? The only damage (which they noted on the email receipt I have) when they took the phone from me was "scratches around casing".

Waiting for the manager to call me back.

Tell them you want you phone back now, the 5 doesnt have a glass back, thats the 4, the 5 has a metal casing on the back!!

If they cannot tell the difference between an iPhone4 and a 5, then you certainly dont want them poking about inside it
