    Default transponder recognition

is it only needed to be in place for the initial start, or does it have to be in permanent contact for it to work ?

Ive only ever needed it to be close enough to start before now but no harm in taping the key to the pickup

The transponder just amplifies the signal from the key - but you do need it in the area at all times (to keep it running, properly)
