1.2 carb engine code

In desperate need of piston rings, but my supplier needs the engine code, its a 1.2 carb but i keep finding different codes -
12ST - 1196cc (1.2) - 1983-1992 (X-K reg)
12NV - 1196cc (1.2) - 1990-1992 (H-K reg)

Where on the engine will i find it? i dont want to end up ordering the wrong parts, then only find out when ive got a stripped engine,

Also for anyone that points out the obvious check the date with the above, its '89 but is booked as a 1.0, and i cant find the guy that put it in :/

Will more than likely be st mate if it's carb, I think pistons are the same only difference is fuel injection ie manifold and electric fuel pump. The code should be on the block near the head iirc

What's your reg number start with? 12ST isn't always the 1200 carb engine, my h reg silver nova was a 1200 but not a 12ST...
