Pistons are different, turbo oil return needs drilling on the xe block, apart from that they are identical

Why would you want to change the block due to the head going porous?

Easy enough to do the porous mod if your handy on the spanners, have drills, etc to sleeve the head. Be a shame to split one engine for abit of time in fixing porous head.

Isn't there just a blank that you unscrew for the return?

This, bang the XE head on the LET block, swap the exhaust cam only, (i.e. remove the XE exhaust cam and fit the one from the LET, but leave the inlet cam alone) and youve fixed your engine and with the addition of a vernier pulley, and a rolling road, gained about 7-12 bhp iirc!
