Question Corsa C total steering failure.

    Hey folks,

The mrs just called me there on her way back from the shops with the wee one.
Her steering had went as she was about to pull out at a junction. I'm glad it didn't go while she was on the motorway etc as the steering wheel just spins as if it's not even attached to the rack
I had a look under the steering wheel and everything seems to be linked together although the lower bit below the joint bit seems a bit close to the floor.
I think the rack it's self is ok as I used a large crow bar to manipulate the wheels to turn the car to park it up and both wheels turned fine.

Has anyone else had or heard of this happening before?

    Thanks,

    David.

Similar supposedly happened to a mates brothers Trafic.
He reckons it was solved by tightening the nut which attaches the wheel to the column.

I am very dubious tbh, but worth a look mate?

Aye. Whip the airbag out and have a look?
Leave it connected if you're concerned about discharge (fnar fnar).

Steering UJ has probably sheared the bolt. There only a teeny tiny M8 bolt that connects the coloumn to the rack.

See, that sounds more like it.

My mate swears this is how the Trafic was 'repaired' though.

Hahaha nice try bazil, but after I used the bar to turn the wheels I don't think you would be interested .

I will take the airbag out later and have a look, then check the bolt under the car.

Must be an SRi if he's sniffing about after your wheels?
