No,insure it 1st.
Or if youre mid build, get the paperwork filled in and visit your local dvla office to get the logbook updated before its finished, its always puzzled me why people will happily spend a couple of months building something, then worry about the paperwork when its finished and then be like 'zomg, how do i do this'
If you do it mid build, in theory the paperwork should be back and it will be booked as a 2.0 before you finish the car
I heard that for someone to come and check it over when its done it costs loads of money is this true ??
Its bollox, send it off,if they ask for any proof, provide it.It shouldnt cost loads at all.
Id go to the dvla local office, ive heard of loads of people having their v5's returned unchanged after just posting them out, both myself and Andy above, used the local office and had it done there and then, i came back out with a replacement tax disc too (after paying the extra £30+ for the change in tax bracket) they sent off the v5 after stamping their approval on it, i went home knowing it was done and my updated v5 landed a couple of weeks later, simples!
sounds good so this stuff iv heard of getting someone to come and look at the engine once its all in and done is a load of ****e then ? cheers lads for the help
If you're changing tax brackets (i.e. a 1.0/1.2/1.3/1.4 > 2.0) then the DVLA should ask for some form of evidence. Whether they remember to ask or not is the unknown factor
I'd also strongly recommend going to a local DVLA office and doing the paperwork over the counter. Thats how I did mine and had the V5 back in about 10 days iirc with all details correct.
