    Default Silly thoughts... WRX/Disco/others

So then for those who might need a little help
We are a family of two cars, one is the utterly homo but insanely ace Abarth 500 and the other is an ageing 54 plate PD310 Passat Estate.

The Passat is due for replacement in the next 6 months or so depending how long I can deal with its sheddyness.
Long term 'grown up' thoughts have been a 3 or 5 20D Touring, V50 D5 or similar (not french or Ford or Merc or Vaux )

Short term 'one year' car ideas are
a 2005/6ish UK WRX sport wagon/tourer/estate/wtf they call it
    An early Disco 3 tdv6
    or A8/Phaeton

Now the one year car idea is to pick something up just after a service and run it for a year with (fingers crossed) no running costs other than fuel, insurance and depreciation. Basically to tick the box of owning a car of X kind to scratch the itch.

Are the mid 00's WRX's still car thieves wet dreams? Are most likely to be dogs now? and would one run for a year of sedate use without any major costs associated (aside from fuel )

The killer for the A8/Phaeton idea is that a kids bike wont really go in the boot eaily due to the saloonness of it
And the drawback on the Disco is for the kind of money I wish to spend (sub 10k) it'd be a leggy well specced one or an ok miles poverty spec.

Anyone got decent experience with any of the above, be it seeing them through work or having owned etc... I'd love the idea of an Impreza for a year as it'd release the inner chav

Good shout, just had a look, cant find any WRX ones BUT the 2.5 turbo engine seems the same etc and the Forrester has an acceptable spec vs price.

Just thought of another off the wall idea, R32 B6 Passat 4wd, toys and very cheap to buy

I was also going to suggest a Forrester, if you can find one then get a prodrive one as theye slightly wider arched, and have the same tickled up underpinnings as the top spec wrx sti, a mate had one a few years back (53 reg i think) and it was amazing, took us out for a blast in it and went like absolute stink, really impressed and will still manage muddy trails, our average winter type of thing, perfect mix of practicality and fun i reckon
