It doesn't bother me about o/t when I'm on night shift but I like the extra couple of hundred a week on days. I'm in tullos, did you take the job at GE oil and gas?

Today couldn't have gone any more wrong! My new clocks, steering wheel and TPS arrived this week so today as it was sunny, I set about fitting them. The old TPS screws were rounded off, so that was a nightmare to remove then the new one didn't seem to solve the problems even after adjusting it, it's much, much better just not as good to drive as with it unplugged!

Then came the steering wheel and clocks, the old wheel was a nightmare to remove! For some reason it had been forced on, and had damaged the nut/threads. So eventually I got that off, and removed the steering cowling to access the clocks. These came out without too much trouble, but after removing them I realised that the printed circuit was in a VERY bad state, and after being as careful as possible, the brittle contacts still snapped and broke off. The new one which I had bought off ebay, advertised as Nova clocks were sadly not nova clocks. They looked the same, but the plug that goes into the back on the new clocks has 7 terminals, where as the old one had 6. So the plug wouldn't work, and after re-fitting the old ones back and turning the ignition on they started to smoke! Removed them again and they're toast, literally! Another issue I had was after re-fitting them the dials in the centre don't work properly and the temperature and fuel gauges just go straight to maximum with just the ignition on, and for some reason the plastic connector when plugged in makes the ignition stay on even when you remove the key, probably in relation to the smoke and damaged circuit board! Traced this back to the contact on the rear of the clocks, so left the plug unconnected, and just the speedo itself plugged in. So now I have no gauges, no rev counter and just a speedo. Not a fun day!

I'm now at the stage where I am thinking of selling the Nova, as I don't have the patience to work on cars anymore, so if anyones interested, let me know .

Why are you driving with the tps unplugged?
Clockes wise sounds like damaged grounds if they are maxing out...

The TPS was causing the car to kangaroo at full throttle (I did make a thread a while back about this for more info), with it unplugged the fault goes away, so bought a new sensor which is a lot better, but still does the "brick wall" effect at full throttle at higher revs so until I get a chance to trace it back it can stay as it is, as it drives fine with it unplugged. With regards to the clocks, it must be printed circuit related as that was the only thing that smoked (you could see it) as it had come into contact with another. The wiring all seems fine going back towards the dash, but will check it once I get hold of some clocks that actually a. work and b. fit a nova.
