Default Rear turrets, metal thickness question

    Hi,
Bought my gaz coilovers about 2years ago through the site and am finally looking at getting them fitted. Well the front are on but the rears have been fitted and removed as they were rubbing on the tyres (comp mo's 195/50/15's) as well as the inner arch so have decided that the only option is to turret the rear mounts.
I have read various things online but was just wondering what width of metal is recommended as i guessed 3mm but when looking at this it seems pretty thick and not as workable as 2mm, I realise it has to be strong hence asking the question first to see what others have used.

    Thanks in advance!

Or just buy mk2,escort ones from rally design and modify to suit?

    I'd use 3mm minimum
success is only limited by a weak mind

I'd (am) making/getting round ones make. As i think they look better. I spec'ed 4/5mm thick.

you can make the sides of the box from as little as 1.7mm but the top of the turret 3mm minimum

    (this applies to rears only)

thanks for the replies. Just ordered myself a welder so no going back now. Never thought about getting some box section, easier than shaping sheet metal myself but will also look at rally design ones as another option. Had a look at the car today and looks like its going to be a fun job.....not.

On another note, its a sealey supermig 150 i have bought, not sure how suitable it is but brand new £250 delivered next day it seems to be decent enough and also doesnt use disposable gas, what wire thickness would you recommend? 0.6 or 0.8? Sure I have always used 0.8mm in the past but since ive always used other peoples welders im not sure, what would you recommend, its only for doing stuff around the car generally

    Thanks again!
