It runs tried bigger main jets and it went better, but still not right, so then stuck the orininal 2mm jets in it and it now runs well enough to drive. it's no doubt bore washing it, but its a start. going to try and limp it to Tom Reid on monday and let him work his magic

personally i think its got to be the fueling and sounds like it did when it was overfueling before, try cleaning out the pins in the dizzy also it might be worth getting a new cap for it, have a look at the center pin where it pushed onto the rotor arm if i remember that was abit fubard ?

i think you should stick with the carbs because it will be soo cool when its running properly
aye, I think its much more in keeping with the look i'm going for
ah right, thanks, i'll get a new cap and arm sorted just in case

Listen, why have you changed your fuel pump? is due to the pressure sent to the carbs?
The carbs don't seem to like running with the mechanical pump, as no matter what pressure I set the regulator at, it either floods at idle, or runs lean at full throttle. the bike pump solves this as it has a high flow rate with a low pressure, and can cut out when the float bowls are full.

Very interesting.Yesterday I saw a video that ran on the original mechanical fuel pump. I will try to make them work with the electric fuel pump of the GSi plus a pressure regulator, because according to the mechanism, excessive fuel pressure causes the needles do not come to close up.

What was the diameter of the jets before you had mounted?

the first set of jets turned out to only be 1.35mm, then i tried 1.6mm with a little improvement, now its running 2mm jets, and it almost runs well i'm going to block up the air jets again today, as they are pretty much redundant now in this set up, so can only be causing bother

right, blocked the air jets this morning, using trusty blue-tack which instantly stopped the misfire at 4k, which meant I could go back down to 1.6mm jets. its now actually drivable! though still gutless and flat as fook

    blue-tack wizardry

    1.6mm jets back in

so now its drivable, it's off to see Tom Reid tomorrow to hopefully get it running a bit sweeter

ive got a 1400 8v on bike carbs in my nova now. im the lad who bought a kent ast1 cam of you years ago .
    my engines a c14se set up with 1200 dizzy, kent ast1, zx6r carbs, 4branch.
i got it set up at bogg brothers and he used 1.9mm jets in mine.
it made 140 bhp on his rollers but i wasnt sure that was possible .
but he had them calibrated few days after and they were 5bhp out!
so it should be 135 at the wheels!! haha

you keeping your engine standard minus the carbs ?

It's now finally sorted Spent today at Tom's and we have it running spot on. Its actually running lambda 1, so should pass the cat emmissions test
I reckon I'll stick with this engine and the carbs now, and spend a bit of cash on it instead of a 16v

Tom and Andy, I can't thank you enough

I remember you mate, you came in a white nova yeah? I wish I still had that cam now you got any videos of it running mate?

The original plan was to keep it standard, then replace it with a standard X16XE, but now I reckon I'll fit an SE head, possibly with some work done to it, a cam and vernier, and see how it goes from there
