What car did the internal shifter come from? Ive been trying to find a cav/calibra one but no luck yet. There are others such as corsa but not sure if they will work.

Good work on the mods :-)

    Thanks,
it came from a Calibra, you can use Mk3 Cavalier, Corsa B and Astra F shifters.
If you need one let me know as I have 2x Calibra shifters for sale. £27.50 posted to the Uk.

Loving the work. Question though, where did you get your Spigot rings from?

Thank you, they were from eBay. Four for around £5.

Default Lewis's '89 1.4 SR - Now with added XE

So I have been busy once again.

Since my engine has been on solid mounts the gear linkage has caught the steering rack going into 5th gear. This was making it very hard to select in anger. Not good for 1/4 mile times!
I looked into this and decided my best solution was to shorten my linkage by 3mm.
Out came the grinder and welder again.

I got it back on and set it up, perfect!

Next job was to try and improve steering feel at speed. A Corsa B steering UJ was ordered. Massive difference between the two!

    Chop!

And welded together. Exactly the same length centre to centre!

    Painted.

It seems to help with feel if nothing else. Notice the new exhaust switch? Haha

Next up was the gearbox, I wanted to ditch the WR 5th gear in favour of a standard set up. So while doing this I fitted new seals and gaskets.

    Old V New

And back together. Not the best job but needed doing.

    I then fitted this!

    And did this!

    Oops..

A little trip to my Dads

    Machined to an interference fit,

And pressed together making it exactly 416mm long. Perfect!

Out came the welder again. Plug and seem welded, I can't see this going anywhere.

    Built back up.

    Refitted and tested.

Gears feel loads better now, steering is nice and direct and best of all it drives so much better. You can accelerate hard now without massive amounts of torque steer pulling you all over the road. Very happy with the overall results.
