Default removing scratches and brightening paintwork?

Hi when i bought my car i knew it needed a paintjob but i wont be getting it painted for a couple of month yet,So im looking to brighten up the paintwork and get rid of some scratches.
it honestly looks like he has washed it with a scouring pad!and the paintwork is quite dull.what would be best to try improve it?(i know i wont get it perfect).

i have a few products at home but anybody recommend anything better or if im basically pissing in the wind?
i was thinking use some Meguiars scratch x all over the car then use some polish then a wax?is there anything else i should use?

(its a silver VX220 if it makes any diffrence to products needed??)

Scratch x is ok, but not great.

But it will bring the paint back up a bit better. If your using Megs you might as well carry on and use Nxt over the top.

If you can afford a bit more then you can open up to a great range of stuff to bring it back up.

Get a small bottle of G3 do the car once over. The use Megs stage 3 then Dodo juice wax over the top. Will look great.

Using a mop/polishing will make it 100x easier.
