Small carbed engine from 1.0 to a 1.6. Just had a nosey in my garage and spotted a mk1 rear bumper if that's any use to you,
are the brackets ok on the inside that slide into the rear quarters?
ill give him a text and ask but i dunno if he'll have any carb
Brackets are a little rusty from sitting but feel strong enough
well got the engine stripped today head looks fine so does everything else so im happy
got a full gasket set, water pump, thermostat headbolts and clutch to fit now
cleaned the gearbox up a bit today aswell
this is the first vaux engine i have stripped the other have had tappets and to get rid of the tap on them i had to get new shims made up
how do i go about it on this engine as theres no tappets
hydraulic lifters.... strip them & clean them. lightly oil them when you assemble them, and then stick them in the engine. when the oil pumps round the heads, they will pump up & run fine.
The litters will be the sausage shaped things adjacent to each valve
Are they easy enough dis-asembled
you just lift it out its holder. they look like this
use a small vice or g clamp to compress them, then use a small screwdriver to pop the retaining ring off, then undo the vice or clamp. if you are lucky, it will fall apart easily, or you may need to wrap a rag round it & use a plier to pull it apart.. do not damage the shiny stuff.. then use a chemical cleaner (i used flash & soaked them for a bit, then wiped them clean, then put a tiny tiny drop of engine oil in & put it back together opposite to how you took it apart... saves buying new ones.Originally Posted by swedge
