Theyre quick but the thing is you expect it to be mind blowingly fast, but theyre not, theyre not slow but will never keep up with the starship enterprise, and rather a lot of stuff these days will, so in comparison to other cars they are slow to a degree, if that makes sense

new stuff is expensice tho, my mates drive 1.2 corsa c,1.4 opel astra, 1.2 5door merit nova, 1.2 corsa c

the likes of that wont stand a chance

mate has a redtop corsa b which could give me a good run
other mate has a glanza so that shall be interesting

and then the new hot hatch's you are on about (civic type r 200bhp) but come on the guts of 7k no wonder its bloody quick.

Its all relative. New hot hatches are way more powerful, but on the flip side are a lot bigger and heavier.

Thats why an XE feels fast and a MK5 golf GTi feels slow, when in reality the golf would probably have the nova.

But a diesel wouldn't IMO

From 0 to the end of 4th gear (you figure out the speed ) my blue Nova was ahead of a E46 M3, then he overtook

In the red Nova I made a new focus ST look like he wasn't even trying
