They've probably copied a bilstein design for rally or similar, adjusters at the top mean they're sprung weight.

these tiny alternators are usually from kubota engines(or similar), as used in that crappy aixim thing, and also mini diggers, compact tractors etc....

Been mincing about lately... picked up this contraption. Will take to work & blitz it down on a lathe Monday.

Anyway, removed all one etc etc cleaned & that, pre assembled to find the following...

Theres a huge gap :/ that was full of road crud :/ obviously its not an interference fitment so whats the deal with this gap being cunnigly pointed out by a pointy piece of carbon

The central cirlce metal insert is removable (for those who didnt know), but refit it and it leaves a huge gap? What do you here, pack it with packing grease/copper slip etc to stop crud ingress?

It's just a giant washer to hold the bottom pulley to the crank, if you tried to fit it without that it'd slide over the bolt. Fairly sure the pulley sits over the washer.

    1. why not, would be with any other washer

    2. By "pulley sits over it" I meant the gap. Pretty sure the ID of the pulley is smaller than the OD of the bolt.
