I used to use both 95 & 98 on the 1.2 (C reg too) It ran fine on both but AFAIK the previous owner took it to Vauxhall to get it timed up for use with unleaded both 95 & 98 (had some sticker on the filter lid stating this).

The MK1's are tougher than the MK2's [awaits MK2 owners with arguments othewise] Mine is solid in all the right places just corrosion on the rear arch and started up on the door bottoms. Then again mines done almost 100k miles. Currently undergoing bodywork (clicky on the sig below )
