The hole enlarging isnt a bad idea, been done on my mates car without probs, Best way is to weld a couple of washers on in the correct place.

in chapter 13 of the haynes book, it actually shows you how to file the existing holes to make camber adjustments

the camber bolts can also slip just as easily as a slotted hole. one good whack on a kerb is all it needs
