    I managed to post up the wrong photo of my modified front drive flanges, here's the correct ones;

    And one of the most useful bits of workshop equipment, I treated myself and can thoroughly recommend SGS products;

    I bought 2 years ago titan grade 5 for the hubs, and have no time to make it.

    Updates due on front brake changes plus the planned Coil on Plug conversion. And a carbon dash binnacle too.

    In the meantime, as this is also a Project Binky update thread, Episode 22 is out now.

    Also Retropower Episode 12 on the Gordon Murray Escort has been released.

    Got hold of some of the Audi coilpacks and here they are trial fitted on my engine;

    Classic Ebay mis-description as I bought 8 of these coilpacks which were advertised as being genuine Bosch parts (which I wanted as they are slightly shorter than other manufcturer's coils). However, when they arrived there were just 2 Bosch coils, and the other 6 were cheap Chinese copies.

    So I'm still looking for 2 genuine Bosch ones, and I need to get the wiring harness sorted.

    I'm having a complete re-think on the front brakes as well, having experimented with 4mm thick front discs from a single seater race car, and 4-pot calipers from a WSB motorcycle, I'm looking to go back to something more substantial.

    My favoured solution currently is this;

    The discs are 260mm x 10mm thick and mounted on an alloy bell (they came off the rear of a Saxo circuit race car I bought), and the calipers are Wilwood Powerlite 4-pots, which I got from a Peugeot 106 hillclimb car. By lucky chance the calipers fit the disc perfectly. The bell will need to be slightly modified to suit my 101.6mm PCD, and I will need some brackets made, I've been talking to Godspeed Motorsport about doing those for me.

    I also have some Compbrake 4-pot calipers that Toymex (Jezz) very kindly sent my way, but they're designed to use a larger 278mm diameter disc, and they're spaced to suit a 25mm vented disc, so the spacer would need machining down to suit a solid disc. There's absolutely no point in using vented discs on a hillclimb car as they're heavy and don't get hot enough to be justified.

    I've also done some re-working on the dashboard area, and have now installed this;

    Yes, it's a little extra weight, but it looks the part, and allows me to group all the controls around the steering column again. The carbon dashboard came from a friend of mine who owns a Ford RS200 (and yes, I do mean 200!!), he bought the dash as it came with a lovely Cosworth Electronics membrane switch panel, which he's keeping for himself.

    Finally I've gone a bit retro, with some Manta 400-style vents to the tailgate, and the same will be happening at the front;

    Very useful aluminium template for cutting the vents, I have more of these for sale on Ebay if anyone's interested.

    Do you really need 4 pot brakes? could you not go to a 2 pot?

    Also i think its yaris, but the japanese coilpacks are shorter which would enable a better mount to be made if the Audi ones are sitting high out of the head
    If Carlsberg did Motor clubs, then IDMC would probably be the best motor club in the world.

    Fantastic work Colin.

    Can i ask where did you get the filler cap? I've been looking for something like this for ages..

    Will the hubs be strong enough with all the metal removed?
    All I wanted was a Pepsi, just one Pepsi
    Far from suicidal
    Still I get them tendencies
    Bringing back them memories
    That I really miss when I reminisce

    Droo me an e-mail, I just happen to have a brand new filler cap the same, together with the weld on neck.
