Backbox repainted and fitted, good as new!
As mentioned a few pages back I'm sick of the coilover springs dislocating so I've sorted myself some helper springs. Thanks to Mieran who donated me some at PV show but unfortunately they're slightly too larger ID and they didn't locate well on the platforms, and the middle platform didn't fit the 2.25" springs. Thanks anyway Mieran!
So got some new 3" ones from Gaz, on with fitting the fronts. Initially I wanted them to be at the bottom so there's less chance of them moving side to side:
However after fitting them to the car, the middle platform bottomed out on the adjusting seat meaning the weight of the car would be on a plastic ring!
Ended up fitting them both at the top:
Much better:
Good reason for fitting the rears, the top platform can simply fall off when you extend the shock:
Job jobbed:
Rears could do with being 4" open length really (as I anticipated) as I've had to raise the rideheight slightly to keep them in position when on the floor. Unfortunately Gaz only do them in 3" so might have to sort some elsewhere, or just get creative with the cable ties.
i dont see how the weight of the car isn't still on the plastic ring
Well it's still on the plastic ring, but thats pressed up against the coilbound helper so essentially a solid lump. At the bottom when the spring didn't go coilbound it was pressing the locating bit against the bottom spring paltform and the bit the spring sits on would not be pressing against anything and likely snap it. Bad explanation
i think i know what you mean not sure it is the case but really doesnt matter so long as your happy with it and it does the intended job
Note to self, don't book a day off work and not have anything planned or stuff like this happens
