Looks like it could have been expensive .

Michelin S9C which are quite a hard compound. Second hand and easily sourced. They last quite a few track days

Hmm probably early next year no plans yet! Part of the fun is camping out the night before.

Plenty available usually about 200 for four. They last me a good few track days

Just a few eBay sellers mate, no special contacts. Team up with a mate and get 8 to make it a bit cheaper. Some of them are a bit messy/peeled but scrub up fine with our use.

They could probably really do with a 7J wheel (and arch work) but they do work on 6J.

Last outing at Donington I picked up a fibreglass bootlid, second hand but unused/boxed. Just finished fitting it over the past month or so.

First off, it has captive nuts to bolt on original hinges, which Paul kindly let me relieve off a mk2 Astra bootlid which shares the same hinge mechanism:

This resulted in a shocking panel gap

Standard Nova car-side hinge got ground back, crushed in a vice and shaped to avoid the boot-side bolt heads:

Boot inner skin got cut out for access and more weight saving:

Aerocatches fitted (also a second hand bargain )

These were modified so the pin could be mounted horizontally:

Knocked up a professional spray booth My first attempt at gun painting, it's 2k primer, flatted then 3 coats of colour-matched 2k paint (my car is miles off the Glacier White it's supposed to be ):

Inside pins are taken care of with two shaped pieces of 3mm metal, edges curved to stop the plate flexing:

Also in the above pictures are a much smaller boot seal that was required as the gap between the boot and car is much less than the steel item.

Finished product now with window fitted, Very happy with the paint considering it's my first DIY paint job. I think I'll re-apply the Sport-esque graphics I had on the last one:

Looks good, what sort of weight saving would you gain from this?
