"let me drive.. i won't make a fool out of you"
this looks mint mate!!!
Ta ,allthough i have to say it goes better than it looks
Small update ,i had my first race of the year booked for the weekend Oct 30th /31st at Brands ,it would be my first outing with this engine, but it was the championships last meeting of the year.
I was only accomponied by just the misses as my usual helpers were busy doing other things ,it was a brightish morning but damp under foot, the car was a bitch to start had to borrow a fellow racers battery charger as my varley and jump pack wouldnt turn it over fast enough when i did manage to get it started there was a big queue at scrutineering ,car went straight through no problems but i was a bit late getting back to the paddock,so was trying to demist the windows and check tyre pressures when the call to the assembly area was announced ,i didnt even have my race suit on got noise tested on the way to the assembly point 102db,s happy with that.
It was still damp underfoot and sat in the assembly area i was checking the other cars and there seemed to be a lot of cars on wet tyres so i started to panic that i had the wrong tyres i have never driven with slicks in the damp so was a bit nervous ,but did notice Richard Brent my class leader was on slicks and seasoned mini racer Bill Richards was on slicks aswell so helped settle my nerves a bit,I left the pit lane behind Bill and Richard at what seemed to be a very gentle pace but as i have a habit of pushing too hard on cold tyres and spinning i stayed behind them.
It was really busy on track 32 cars in quali ,i soon got passed by the escort cossys and what looked like a btcc bmw and a couple of bmw minis that were on wet tyres ,but i seemed to be fairly quick compared to some other cars around me they seemed really slow in the bends.
The car was handling really well and was only understeering if i tried to come on the throttle too early out of bends and the back stepped out a couple of times at paddock but it was very controllable, the new engine was awesome and i can honestly say that nothing other than a couple of class A cars were quicker down the straight, but it was so busy on track that i never seemed to get a clear lap so towards the end of the session i came up behind a sierra cossy and bmw that were holding me up so coming out of paddock i got a run on them and decided i would do a banzai move up the inside into druids just as we got to the braking zone i dived up the inside hit the brakes and accelerated on the damp track slicks and a damp line dont mix and i ended up in the gravel not just that but i had snapped the cambelt as some gravel had got trapped between the pulleys and belt.
As i was towed back into the pits a mate came up and said you were doing allright ,i didnt think i had done too well and thought that i could have gone a couple of seconds quicker if i had of got a clean lap in but when the quali results came in i had qualified in class pole, i had out qualified all of the class above and had qualified 12th out of 32 cars but i couldnt make the race due to the cambelt.
Oh well roll on next year and hope to see a few at the race meetings
Good report, bad luck on the cambelt, these things happen.
Roll on 2011 !
Yes James roll on 2011, hopefully see you with the pug at a trackday
just had a read through mate, loving the spec and stance of the car looks the business. Shame about the cambelt going but best of luck for next season mate
