I think you'd need an agreed value on your car for them to guarantee to pay out what you say its worth (receipts, photos, etc) - best would be to ask them if you ring for renewal. Maybe ask if they can match a lesser quote you've got too.

^ Yep. Value of the car only seems to affect level of insurance - some companies I've seen won't offer certain cover or features to cars under £5k for example. If you want an agreed valuation, get an agreed valuation, but don't be surprised if they say a relatively standard Nova is only worth £400 tops.
Also, don't forget your excess will come off any payout. So if you have a compulsory excess of £250 for being under 21, then another £250 voluntary excess, and you make a claim under which the insurance payout is £500, you won't actually see any money.
Its not brilliant by a long shot, but its probably the best you'll get. I'm assuming you have thatcham approved security? What about pass plus, that may still make a difference, or membership of the IAM (not sure if you're too young for that though).Originally Posted by turbojolt

What's IAM?
No security just garaged over night.
Institute of Advanced Motorists. You need to pass an "advanced" driving test to join.
Might be worth looking into getting some security fitted. What may cost £100 on installation could save you double that on insurance each year.

Move to devon, Im paying £971 on an XE at 19, everything declared:D
Tbh they dont make much differance. When i got quotes on mine it didnt change the quote at all. I understand the reasoning by an alarm (Ive got mine just for piece mind) but unless you can prove it will lower your insurance i dont bother, and i fit them for a livingOriginally Posted by Razorjack
Was that a pro fitted thatcham one though?
My old hatchback had a thatcham approved immobiliser fitted by my uncle (legit fitter) with a certificate of installation. If I remember rightly it saved me rather a large chunk on my insurance back then.

I had a thatcham 1 alarm and immobiliser fitted to my yellow sr, iirc it saved me £25 they said it didnt make much diffrenece if the car is valued at under £5k.
That renewal price seems high tbh, my first years driving on a std 1.0 nova was £1000, or have you declared all mods? Even still, I'd shop around.
RJ - Yep.
Steve - On my brothers car it saved him about that, but thats only because he asked about it
Update - Just got Quote off Churchill FULLY COMP, 9,000 MPY, Garanteed Hire Car, Legal Protection, 400 Excess, 1 Year NC...
Came back with - Your annual insurance quote £1,235.85
So am buzzin because my insurers want £1,246.35 TPFT without Hire Car
Rang up my insurers and they basicly can't match that so going to ring up Churchill tomorrow to confirm the Quote.
Also to go TPFT with Churchill it would only be - £1,080 woop
