one of my rear speakers blew so i took the wires out of it and strapped the wires from the pa speaker and the car ones together and wrapped them in electrical tape

so it is being powered from the headunit amp

does it even work like that? is the sound quality very poor/quiet? if it's just like 10w from the head unit powering a speaker like that, i imagine it would barely move it.

it must be the wrong impedence also. you'd basically need an amp. but an amp for that set up would be for household use, therefore needing 240v not 12. Although I may be wrong. if youv'e got an amp to try it out with then it might be worth a go breifly. Start it at a low volume with no gain, and if it sounds bad quickly then disconnect it as you could damage the speaker or the amp if they aren't matched.

    the speaker reads
    500watts
    12 db/oct
    3.5khz

my headunit says it has 51w x 4 and it sounds ok even a bit of bass coming from it
