Default loom behind dash - wire identification

got a bunch of questions regarding wires in the dash loom - any that can help, cheers. ive got some pics to help, but the qualitys cack.

ok this first one, bassically i want to know what the hell it is, so i can get rid of it if i dont need it, dont think i unplugged it from anything when the dash came out, but my memories crap. has 3 wires with some funky hybrid connector.

this next pics turd, its the fan speed control switch, with heated rear screen. what i want to do is keep the wires i need for the rear screen to rig up on a simple switch and ditch the rest, anyone know which i need ?

this pics even worse. this looks complicated for me, its the hazard switch, how come so many wires ffs ? is it possible to rig this up to a simple toggle switch ?

and one last one - im prety sure this is the ' handbrake on ' dash light switch, is this needed for an mot ? if not ill ditch it too.

Hand brake on warning - no, not required.

Rear window heater - brown/white wire is the feed to the relay, wire that to a power source with a toggle switch (assuming Mk2?)

Hazard switch - yes, I think Baxter was looking into it a while ago. I'll see if I can find the thread.

jesus that thread makes it more daunting, ill probably track the wires back to the relay then deside if i fancy setting the car on fire or not. cheers for info.

any idea what that first switch is ? and while im here, i know im not in the right section, but how do you take the steering column lock off, and is it possible to do it so it can be re-used, gonna sell it with the key.

key needs to be a certain position and a bit of wire poked in to remove the barrel, it's all in the haynes bud (in the green version anyway).

there is a loads that can be stripped out the loom when you know what your doing. also re-routing things and chopping out the excess wire will help. i moved my fusebox to where the heater matrix use to be and ran the wiring for the engine bay straight through the bulkhead. i was able to chop loads out this way.

heres a nice scary pic of during loom slimming for you

    ****ing **** wires ******* **** everywhere !

haynes manual was ****ing useless gettin the column lock off, i did exactly what it said to get the barrel out, and did it come out.. like **** it did, i played with it for ages and **** all happened, then after about 10 mins of ****ing about i let go of everything and it sprung out.. ****ing thing, if they would of explained you needed a curved bit of wire to feed in, instead of a pic in the book of a ****ing sardine tin opener, woulda been allright.

didnt say anything about getting the lock off the collumn.. so out came the hacksaw and chisel., job done.

    whats that first switch !!

    scuse my french.
