We also had the 12NV, my 1991 mk2 had one. Marginal difference in torque/power between the 12ST and 12NV but nothing that would make a noticeable difference.

Are the radiator mount holes in slightly different locations too? I seem to remember diesel rads being different to petrol ones.
I've had a few sets of Spax springs and dampers. Never really had any issues with them.

Not sure what would come up on the MOT system, it might show engine size but the difference between 1.2 and 1.4 isn't going to be obvious to the average tester. They should notice a carburettor...
There won't be a match in the In Service Exhaust Emissions manual (i.e. there was never a 1993 Nova with a 14NV engine) so it will be done on the non-cat test. The MOT tester should be made aware...

If you're looking at full systems, the age range is probably down to the tailpipe. Mk1 have a tailpipe that comes out at an angle whereas Mk2 is straight
