Ouch! That reminds me of my freshly rebuilt X16XE going bang whilst give it large around Silverstone. In my case it presumably was a spun bearing shell (aluminium instead of proper material) used by the place that built my engine. Expensive failures, these!

Ultimately we can't pinpoint the failure, it was either a piston broke, rod little end let go or valve dropped which led to the first two in succession.
I can't complain, it's suffered 4 years of abuse and I've never had it out for a freshen up.
New engine will require yearly top and tailing (depending on use)
And the moral of the story is, use proper components, I've got a steel Arrow crank, Steel Arrow rods and we'll be using Omega pistons and Rec valves, all solid properly made stuff.
