Well I fort now my nova is finally well and truly over I fort id post up the pics I have from the birth, the child hood, the life, the midlife crisis face lift, then finally the death!

Here it is as I brought it about 5 years ago,

A tasty little j-reg mk2 1.4 flair J

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/oldnovaside1.jpg

first weekend I cashed the tax in it had on it and ripped it apart!

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0024-1.jpg

first purchase was a set of 17s, tsw razors wrapped in yokos, those were the days when I had cash to splash lol
slightly wider than the standards

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0027-1.jpg

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0088.jpg

had bubberly rear arches so got some rear replacement panels and widened them round the 17s

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0021-1.jpg

wanted them as be as close as they could without touching!

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0022-1.jpg

front wings were also a bit bubberly, so got new ones and cut and widened them around the 17s

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0087.jpg

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/IMG_5749.jpg

but this idea was short lived and took them all off again and ordered a rally-x wide arch kit off prima racing!

Hated the square skirts they came with so decided to get some artwork out and modify novadose skirts, cut and widened

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0061.jpg

the front wings were ment for a mk1 nova with the big indicators, so I had to make front indicator holes. Lots of trial and error!

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0051.jpg

welded up the door handles and locks, and smoothed it all off

got all the arches in primer, still all been done in my driveway up to this point

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0067.jpg

as the kit is a proper rally one and not ment for bumpers, I had to make a recesses for the front bumper to sit in, seen below the indicator

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/nova104.jpg

with the bumpers both being ment for a ?slim-line nova? they both had to be widened out to match the monster arches

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/nova102.jpg

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/nova103.jpg

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0070.jpg

all this so far was done in my driveway, now it was time to take it down to my mates workshop to get in primer properly,

blocked it all down again

my fave pic of it through the whole project

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0072.jpg

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0073.jpg

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0076.jpg

all in primer it was time to take it home again

bonnet looked a bit standard compared to the rest of the car, so got on the fone to quad conversions

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/quadconversionsbonnet.jpg

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/quadconversionbonnet2.jpg

fort the extent of the bad boy was a bit horrific, went down all the way to the bottom of the lights,

so cut it up to a nice even frown

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/frontcorner.jpg

so was all in primer and looking smooth

next was the brakes, although it was still a 1.4, I couldn?t have those tiny stoppers staying! And as for the back I hate the look of drums! Luckily a mate of a mate had just writ off his mk3 astra gsi and sold me the front legs and full rear beam for 30quid! A steal!!

Heres the standard fronts

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/1.jpg

and the 16v ones

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/2-2.jpg

and as for the rears well! Embarrassing!

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/1-1.jpg

but got to work making the rear beam salvaging the parts from the astras item

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0159.jpg

also while it was home had a bit of a change of plan and decided to relocate the filler cap to the door shut, so had to weld up the air vent

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/fillercap.jpg

so far this part of the project has taken about 2 ? years! Along time!!!

Back to my mates workshop, and finally after weeks of staring at colour charts, I chose Peugeot tangerine metallic

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0002.jpg

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0009.jpg

got the angle eye headlights, which looked good with the bonnet over one

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0011.jpg

painted the engine bay satin black for now

once on the road the project stood at about 3 years!

Drove it around for about a year, added a kent cam and pulley, and a few other bits, but after a while I was bored of having nothing to do!

So I brought this!

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCe0001.jpg

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCe0007.jpg

a 1991 1.6 8v gsi lump and running gear! Half been dismantled and all bits given in a box! Spent all winter stripping it down to a bare block and replaced everything from the base up, had the cranks reground, lightened and balanced flywheel, new big end shells and mains, new rings, new valve seals, skimmed head, every single gasket and seal replaced, kent cam, vernier pulley, 4 branch, and some other few bits resulted in this

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0006-1.jpg

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0014-1.jpg

re-routed all the loom under the inlet manifold

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0008.jpg

and did the box to match

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0012-1.jpg

seam welded up the entire engine bay while it was empty

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/nova%20timeline/DSCF0025-1.jpg

and in it went

and I was happy again, but this didn?t last long, and after a year and a bit the bodywork was getting a bit stone chipped and the fibreglass was looking a bit ripperly,
so I took it into my wok and blocked the whole thing down

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r281/ronniecourt/respreyprep2.jpg

Good work, good pics, good write up! Overall... good!

I'm not usually a fan of kitted Novas, but I have to say yours did look the part, and the DIY work looks to be of a damned good standard! :thumb:

Fair play to you. That showed great committment and self belief. Its what owning cars is all about if you are the sort of pertol head who likes to roll their sleeves up, get their hands dirty and man up to what they believe in:thumb:

yea was gutted the way it went in the end, at least i never saw anyone else drivin it round!

not sure how much i spent in total, not a massive amount spread over the 5 years, i was an aprentis for the first 3 years so didnt have a lot of cash to spend! i never got a lown out for it or borrowed money for it, i only spent what i had!

Brilliant write up mate, very impressive to do all the work yourself aswell, makes it all the more worthwhile.

Looked a nicely constructed car, and good standard of work.

Makes it even more gutting when you scroll down to see the first 'wrecked' pic. :(

wondered how all the people who brought my bit off the nova were gettin on, wondered how they fitted on all the nova's round the country lol, spoke to novadex and he's got my doors and bonet on his car in bronze still  , wondered how everyone else was gettin on?

Not a fan of kitted Novas, but that was very nice and as you carried out all the work yourself on your driveway, well, I take my hat off. Gutted as to how it ended, but you seemed to get a good deal from your insurance company. It's just a shame you didn't get to enjoy it longer. Really enjoyed reading that and shed a wee tear for it at the end.
