NovaLad
13-04-07, 02:45 PM

15-04-07, 01:42 AM

lee coley
15-04-07, 08:47 AM

Phil_G
15-04-07, 11:33 AM
Leave some comments people .. give me some ideas ...

Before you go throwing bigger engines in, put a lowering kit on it, calibra 16v brakes and some nice 15s on it.

Spend a good while driving it like that as it will teach you better how to drive corners properly instead of flying upto them at the speed of light, thinking "oh ****e" and screwing the brakes on as hard as you can.

Wisewood will remember what my 1200 was like in that spec... lol

NovaLad
15-04-07, 02:38 PM
I'm 17 why would i go and throw a bigger engine in it lol ... I allready have GMAX lowing springs ... Just really need some 15" alloys with decent tyres that i can throw on so it doesn't look stupid lowered with trims lol .. <BTW don't know anything about dimensions of typrs etc.. I'm sure my uncle can get me some cheap calibre 16v Brakes also ..

P.S Yoza i mite be gettting some GSi skirts soon :P thanks for the comment matey

vaughanmc
15-04-07, 02:43 PM
195/45/15 would be about the best tyre size to get if u get 15" Alloys :)

NovaLad
15-04-07, 02:50 PM
Lol 195/45/15 that means nothing to me ...

vaughanmc
15-04-07, 02:53 PM
195 - how wide the tyre is (mm)
45 - sidewall, thickness (mm)
15 - size of the hole where the wheel goes (inches)

that easier??

well atleast i think thats how its worked out..

lee coley
15-04-07, 02:54 PM
......thats the tyre size

NovaLad
15-04-07, 02:54 PM
What's the widest your tyre can be on a Nova with 15" without ruining arches etc..

vaughanmc
15-04-07, 02:56 PM
195 i would say

i don't think i'd like to run 205's

Driver
15-04-07, 03:01 PM
195 - how wide the tyre is (mm)
45 - sidewall, thickness (mm)
15 - size of the hole where the wheel goes (inches)

that easier??

well atleast i think thats how its worked out..

right apart from the sidewall thickness part

45 is the % of the thicknes it is

ie 195/50 is 195mm wide is 92.5 thick sidewall etc

trust me i used to be a tyre fitter

vaughanmc
15-04-07, 03:03 PM
i don't get it lol

but i trust u :)

Driver
15-04-07, 03:04 PM
lol the second number is the thickness but its a percentage of the width of the tyre and if you dont get it this time then i give up :p

vaughanmc
15-04-07, 03:06 PM
nah i think we should just leave it -- my brains not working properly today

suppose, it never works lol

lee coley
15-04-07, 03:08 PM
45% of 195 = thickness ?

NovaLad
15-04-07, 03:10 PM
I'm sure wisewood will come in suddenly with a link to a chart for how tyre sizes work lol ..

Driver
15-04-07, 03:11 PM
45% of 195 = thickness ?

ding ding ding ding ding ding

we have a winner

Ok i have decided what i want to definitly do with my Nova now...

The plan is to make it into a GSi rep so hopefully in the next month i want to buy the following and if anyone has these things then please leave me a message...

*3 GSi sticker - Will get off ebay
*GSi SideSkirts - prefarebly with the clips as i don't want to rivit into my body work
*The back Vinyl - The one that goes on the bottom of the boot
*GSi front and rear bumper can wait unless someone has a set going cheap in decent condition
*Want a set of 5 or 4 at a push, GSi alloys with decent tyres
*Will put 15" over alloys on if they are good and cheap

I allready have a set of GMAX lowering springs - not sure how low they go but they will be fitted just before new alloys or just after...

Anyway watch this space - And yes i know GSi novas never got made in burgendy ... lol ...

NovaLad

Wheres the pics of the arch rebuilds??

NovaLad
27-05-07, 09:27 PM
They arn't finished yet lol

Just need some filler, primer then they can be re painted!!! Woooooot

NovaLad
05-06-07, 02:31 PM
Ok rear arches are in this condition... they have been rubbed down primers then started to fill them out - they just need a bit more filling before smoothing over primering and painting. (as you can see in the pic !!!

Also painted the calipers and drums red with hammerite really happy with the fact that they stand out with my GSi alloys!!!

also as you can see the left side doesnt have any rub strips !!! this is becuase i removed them and i am still removing the gluey rubber under the strips !!! (as you can see in pic)

EDIT ::: Also put the skirts on today just temp to see what they looked like and of course they looked "ace"

Right after taking the left side rub strips off and glue with no problem i went around to the other side of the car to take the other strips off and had no problem ...

The big problem is all the glue and crap left over ... its just gunna take me ages to take off with my fingers and last time i ended up with cuts blisters etc.. lol

Does anybody know how i can take the **** off without using my fingers or a credit card << cos that doesn't work lol

EDIT:: also tried spirits and that doesn't help untill i get down to just the glue ...

Peel the three lines of double sided tape off slowly so not to leave the glue residue. But it's mainly elbow grease, peeling and scrubbing.

Hairdryer and White Spirits (Turps)

Does the trick -- Then some Polish or T-Cut..

NovaLad

Peel the three lines of double sided tape off slowly so not to leave the glue residue..

Yeah i did that on the other side it just came off in long strands leavign the paint work under nice...

But on this side its not coming off in strands, i have to get my nail behind it and scrape it .. and its taking well too long ... and the glue is so hard to get off ... it aint even rubbing off with white spirits!

Ok after spending about 4and a half hours on the glue and rubber stuff under the strips and only getting half way through 1 side i realised it's pissing me off lol ...

I have sore fingers , Arms , Wrists and nails, not to mention how high i am off the white spirits i have been using.

It only took 2 - 3 hours on the other side and this is taking the piss now.

I shall carry on later tonight or tomorrow depending on if i can be ****d.

the amount of people that ask this question. its so easy if you get the right kit which only costs a fiver. just go to your local panel/bodyshop suppliers and ask for a fudge wheel. this is simply a rubber wheel which goes into a drill which you use to rub the paint off.

NovaLad

Do you mean rub the sticky crap off ?

every bodyshop in the world uses them so unless your a fecking retard you wont rub the paint off or damage it in any way

Didn't end up at college today instead i ended up working on the car again.
1st of all re routed the wires for the sub so that it was all neat. Did want the sub to 1 side but the earth wire i got wasn't long enough so had to put it in the middle of boot.

Then it was off to BMS for some primer and sand paper and start rubbing down the arches again... Looks a bit messy atm...
http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i319/MD_Crew/DSC01333.jpg
Then primerd and decided to spray a bit to see what it was like and it matches ''ok'' i suppose lol... but tomorrow when i take the masking off i reckon it will be a mess and i'm going to prob need the whole arch doing.:(

Just popped out to garage and decided to unmask some of the fresh paint i sprayed on and it is pretty clos in the light i was just in...

Now i need to blend the colours together because when i primered it i masked it off so now i' left with a white line around it!!

What's best to blend it in? a buffer and wax?

Iain
26-10-07, 05:54 PM
Try t-cutting over the edge and if it looks good polish it up. When I did my rear arches I just masked the door/lights/rear window and blended the paint in with the existing paint so it was less noticeable.

NovaLad
26-10-07, 05:55 PM
Yeah was thinking of just re spraying the whole arch but it takes ages to get down to metal i would need one of the propper grinder things.

Iain
26-10-07, 05:57 PM
IMO... Don't attempt to spray the entire rear quarter with rattle cans... Just lightly sand it back with fine wet+dry and give it another coat over the arch and where you can see the edge to blend it a little.

Did i say it was finished?

It's a bit hard to use masking tape when i don't have any and i wasn't walking to the shop seeing as though i am literally skint.

Also the arches are f(_)cked anyway and allways have been.

If anybody wants to pay out for a new arch for me and do it for me then be my guest.

Lastly it's a nova not a brand new car so tbh aslong as rust isn't showing i don't really care.

NovaLad
17-11-07, 01:54 AM
1 more thing... the reason why their is loads of filer is because of some tw4t before me had put replacement sheets of metal that had bent outwards and you couldn't see them untill i pulled off the rub strips so that needed bending in and then loads of filler just to try and smooth it over.

How can people tell me it's terrible when i hadn't finished the job :| And still havn't finished it.

That's like me saying to someone who has posted pics of their car half rubbed down that it looks terrible when the job isn't finished so how can you comment on their work when it isn't finished?

I know what i am doing as a guy i know used to work in a body shop prepping and spraying cars so he has been pointing me in the right direction it just takes time.

It was primered at that point so i could see the imperfections and rub them down more.

Yes the arch lip is fooked but i can't help that tbh i tried bending it back into place and it just cracks and i end up with more filler on the car.

You need a rasp on that filler work on the 2nd wheel arch. failing that some low grit paper & work it back until you get the factory line back in the arch.

Wet & dry paper for use after the paint will be 1200 or 1800 grit, use it wet & you'll be amazed how smooth it makes the finish.

Best money you could spend at this stage would be a HAYNES bodywork manual.

NovaLad

Cheers for the no how and i allready have a haynes manual pal.
Ok got on with sorting out the line that was left from the spraying up etc.. by rubbing it down with plenty of T-Cut till it was smooth as a babies bum lol...

Then realised i have ran out of spray and it's windy anyway so i will leave the rest till tomorrow and this is what it looks like right now :) i am pleased with the outcome...

You can just see the line if you look closely where it wil be getting sprayed.

I think you should paint the drums black and get some decent tyres.

NovaLad
12-12-07, 12:18 AM
If i paint the drums black won't they just look dirty all the time because of dust?

And what's wrong with the tires on it atm.

Welsh Dan
12-12-07, 12:36 AM
Matt black will show the dirt less than red will, they just wont draw attention.

As for the tyres, they look like budget ones, so I dont imagine they'd be much fun in the wet, and the last thing you probably want to do after getting the car as you want is to see it at the bottom of a ditch or wrapped around a tree.

NovaLad
12-12-07, 12:39 AM
They came on the wheels when i got them... and they are only 14's so how much am i talking for some decent ones .. pointless going low profile on 14??

Welsh Dan
12-12-07, 12:43 AM
You can get 185/60R14 Goodyear excellence's around here for ?42 a corner fitted, I have them on the rear and they're great. You need to be running the 5J version of the 3 spokes though (take the centre cap off and its written in there).

NovaLad
12-12-07, 12:44 AM
The 5J version what's that mean?

Welsh Dan
12-12-07, 12:49 AM
That the wheels are 5 inches wide, there are 4.5 inch versions of the 3-spokes. 185mm is still fairly wide for a 5j wheel. (185mm tread width on a wheel 127mm wide lol, but I have no problems with mine.)

Excellence's are the replacements for Eagle F1's.

http://www.xen0phobiak.f2s.com/novaload/excellence.jpg

They're about the only truly decent wet tyre that you'll find in a 14" size.

go to www.yell.com, find tyre fitters, ring around asking for prices on 185/60R14 Goodyear excellences including fitting, new valves and balancing, then take the cheapest, or best word of mouth reccomendation.

Never, ever go to kwikfit, unless you're desperate to get a puncture repaired on a sunday.
