Chunny,

What your brief engine spec. and what sort of times were you up to at Coombe. I was originally going to come down with Novaneil and a few mates who went on track (silver cupraR, magenta golf VR6, etc), but it landed on my lads birthday this year...bummer

What suspension and tyres are you running and do you have a LSD fitted?

I've taken my XE off the road today to perform its frankenstien type operation, stitch welding the shell, 12 point roll cage, etc etc. AVO coilovers already fitted and they make a huge difference to handling over the Koni sports I had before when I was at the ring last year. The final gem is the Quaife ATB that waiting to go in :>)

Cheers,

Dave.

Ernie
25-04-07, 01:23 AM
As far as i know it's a standard xe with fse boost valve thing.

Not to sure on my times as it broke the first time out so was just glad to get it back still running on the second time out.

Its got Koni coilovers on the front and g/max shock and spax springs on the rear.It also has a 4 point half omp cage and omp strut brace.

It has no lsd but has got a bloody good set of Hankook comp tyres on it.

The out come is a bloody good laugh on track.

Hope that helps.

I was also my partners first time out in atrack car but was unable to remove her from the seat after the first trip out as she loved it.
And 1 more thank you to Chris GSI after he offered to check that my wheel bolts were done up only to find that the bottom ball joints had worked them self loose.
Cheers mate and thanks for doing them up.

Quick update I fitted a rear strut brace on saturday and moved it to another garage so that i could get the white 1 into me lock up and get underneath it and start to paint stuff before the metal worm can get in to it.
My mate was so keen to drive it up to the fixed bar on the back of the civic but kept stalling it as a bit lumpy on tick over.
So not much realy but thought i would keep you all posted and thanks for the strut brace Bert and thanks for sitting in the car's Miller.
Not long untill llandow and cant wait.....

Ernie

Well the camera shut off after 8 mins for some reason then missed out one of the best moments of the day when the bonnet flew up on my out lap.(I will admit to it as a forgot to lock the bonnet pins down)
Then to finish the day off the clutch cable snapped just after putting my dry tyres back on so was gutted as was flying for the first 3 laps then it snapped booo.
Never mind ive got a few weeks before castle combe so not much to do but best get on with it.

Well the time has come to get on with the car ready for this year.
With the nova life going off to london at the end of the month and ive just bought an ex rally nova of my mate it was time to have a move around at the yard.
First of the life got moved to a friends drive way wile i got on with stripping down the rally shell.
It came with lots of goodie that are going onto my track car.
So next time you see me out it will have a 6 point fia cage batery cut off switch f/g bonnet (in white) and a white tail gate. there is also a mocal oil cooler which should be going on to replace the standard xe one.
No pics at the mo as had a lot on but once sorted i will get some.

HaHa, i dont think i have the balls to go and push my luck, Im thinking about sorting myself with a track or maybe rally, I love track days and rally days.

Looks like alot of effort has gone into this, and i aint persnaly keen on looking at a chav'ed up car. . . but i resepcet that they like it and they build it. but i love to see a restore and something diffrent,

Any sorta specs? Would be a good read. Power wise and what tracks and times you produce. :)

Ernie
29-01-08, 12:59 PM
There is at the start of the thread which tells the story behind this car and the build of it..

Loking good Mr Chris, didnt realise you'd sourced a 6 pointer :)
It came with a free f/g bonnet quick rack and loads of rally switches.
Also a seam welded shell but didnt have the heart to change things over from the stick.
So just moved the goodies over instead.

I fitted the rear bush kit yesterday before work and going to take the car to have the tracking done today.
All thats left now is to fit the rear bonnet pins and new bolts on the bottom arms.
It still has a sticky lifter which sounds horible untill it warms up but after running for about 10mins shuts up which is good.
As for combe i my get a high viz jacket and a flashing light for the roof of me vectra for the amount of pick ups i will be doing lol.
See you track side soon.

Hi all if you didnt know i have been having issues with my nova as it keeps snapping clutch cables.
The reason is because the hole for the cable was not bent enough when i put the engine in.
As it has been sunny for the last few days i thought i would get on with stripping down the inlet manifold and sorting out the tube.
Once sorted clutch feels alot better now and should be ok.
I also fitted a new crank sensor as i think that was why it played up at combe when water got into it as it had a bare wire.
Started first touch of the started button.
See you track side soon me and a happyer stick.

Just a little update.
Once again it decided to spit it's dummy out when it see the rain on saturday.
We seam to think it's the water temp sensor playing up so as ive been fitting used one i went out and bought a brand new one.
Ive not fitted it yet but should be doing it over next week or the weekend.
Ive also got to move the bonnet pins down abit as the pins keep coming undone.
Luckely it's only the rear one on the drivers side but the bonnet needs to be moved down all the way round.
Not long till my next track time which will probly be next year lol.
I will get my own back on you at karting Olly.
lol

I went and did some bits to the car today after work.
First of fitted the new temp sensor.
I also think i found why it kept having trouble once hot.
First of we thought it was the temp sensor so fitted a differant one which worked but played up again wile at combe.
When i removed the plug to get the sensor out one of the wires broke of so think it mite of been loose for a wile.
I also fitted the new alt belt after loosing the last one at combe some were on track.
Once this was done i set about moving the bonnet down abit after it kept trying to get away every time i hit 100mph on track.
All sorted now and cant wait to get it back out on track.
