hey all i thought i might as well jump on the bandwagon and start my own thread! pics should be up tonight or in a day or two....

i bought a silver k reg gsi in about june last year over ebay, off the infamous Majika GSi - what a mistake that was! picked it up in the dark and it looked mint but the next day i wasnt so pleased! n/s rear quarter had been sprayed with a fizzy tin, dodgy alarm (siren removed as the alarm goes off all the time!) dodgy welding etc. ran it for a couple of months then the bolts for the o/s engine mount sheared in the block, so i took her off the road.

so far i have removed the engine, fitted new rings, big end bearings, all oil seals have been replaced, lapped the valves in again as the exhaust valves had not even been done and they were passing gas even when shut!

so thats the engine. on removing the battery i discovered a hole so that is one of my next jobs. i have a new upper front panel to fit, a new n/s/r arch panel on its way as it has rotted away to nothing under the fin of the skirt. the sills are split mint, i couldnt believe how clean they were so im pleased about that!

n/s/f chassis leg has cracked and around the n/s strut top has been bodged aswell.

anyway these threads are boring without pics so i'll get em up asap for you!!

This is the one from the for sale thread here (http://www.novaload.net/forum/showthread.php?t=64359)... I saw it on Autotrader and was going to go and look at it and probably fall in to the same trap. The person said it was sold when I rang again to check it was still okay to go view it.

Bad luck on getting caught out but looks like making it decent again :thumb:

Hats off to MagikaGSi, he certainly managed to find some bad motors to flog.

Good luck with it mate, it looks quite peachy in the pics & when completed I'm sure will be up to scratch. What Novas dont have issues?

Are you keeping the Compomotives? (fitted speedlines)

staggy_gsi

swapped the compo's for the speedlines, so erm... no lol.

i managed to track down majika's ex bird and she felt sorry for me so she sent me a 2.0L engine mount kit!! bonus!!

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r124/staggy_gsi/S5030174.jpg

so it looks like ive got more welding to do!! got the head back on the engine aswell but the numptys at the motor factors supplied the wrong inlet manifold gasket so i cant really do much more to the engine yet.

theres been a big lack of progress on the nova for a while - havent had a lot of time to myself. went up yesterday and stripped the front end down ready to fit the new front panel, when i decide the best way to do it. plus the welder has a leak so i havent been able to do any welding yet.

in the next few weeks the rear arch should have finally been fitted, the front panel will have been done as should most of the welding. the worst of which is the passenger side behind the strut top:
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r124/staggy_gsi/S5030208.jpg

doesnt look as bad on the photos, felt like re-shelling it at one point but ah well. heres a couple of the front end:

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r124/staggy_gsi/S5030206.jpg

the front valance is in better nick than i was expecting, judging by the rest of the car i thought it would be hanging off lol.
will keep updated as i am hoping to get cracking again now!

doesnt look that bad tbh, altho that hole behind the strut top is larger then normal lol

lol you should have seen the bodge that was covering it - a piece of metal held on with a tin of gobber!!

quite chuffed at the moment. my mate who is refurbing my speedlines came to me the other day and said that if i do his front discs and pads and a rear shocker on his clio he would call it quits. so ive got a full set of speedlines refurbed for ?75!!

also, a lad i know is fitting my rear arch on wednesday so i'll get some pics up soon...

staggy_gsi
19-03-07, 10:03 PM
ok, so im crap at keeping this thread up to date! lol

nothing much has happened still - the lad who is meant to be doing my arch keeps saying he has to do overtime so i dunno when that will get done. a mate of mine came round tonight to do the majority of the welding, didnt do a bad job - heres a few pics:

battery tray.....

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r124/staggy_gsi/DSC00545.jpg

n/s chassis leg.....

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r124/staggy_gsi/DSC00542.jpg

n/s strut top.....

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r124/staggy_gsi/DSC00543.jpg

it might not look mint at the moment but it'll dress up alright lol.

so now ive gotta get the new front panel welded on and get the engine in to see if its running ok. also still got the rear valance to weld because we ran out of time but thats not a problem.

as for my speedlines, the centre caps have been done but weve gotta wait for the gaffer to go on holiday to spray the wheels lol.

until next time peeps......

staggy_gsi
18-04-07, 07:27 PM
ok not really any progress as im flat broke and sick of waiting for people to come and help! going to buy my own welder hopefully this weekend and get all the welding finished off. one thing that makes me happy is that my speedlines are finished, here they are:
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r124/staggy_gsi/DSC00792.jpg

not bad to say i got them all done for 60 quid!

i still need my rear arch fitting so if any good bodyworkers are reading this and fancy making a few quid, PM me!!!

Just out of interest mate where did you get your speedlines from cos i got a feeling theyre my old ones, as i had the backs of the front two centre caps drilled out so they would go on with my 2ltr shafts on me old valver, and yours have two drilled out holes in them lol

staggy_gsi

they were on a grey/silver corsa sport my mate bought. swapped for my comps coz he liked them better!
