Yeah thats how to make proper wide arches! Cut and extend the originals out.
Theres a place in Cannock CWC Composite (builds rally cars) by TAL Motorsport and hes got a nova shell up in there with arches done like that!

I think you'd probably find that it would be cheaper to get the ready made kits, its not cheap getting them fabricated from the original panels.
The only reason i didnt go with the fibre glass wide arches is because i didn't want them that wide, just wide enough for it to look different.

As for the wheels ......... i know a bit chavtastic but i kinda like em. If i dont go too far over budget i might think about some new ones but ive still got to get an exhast system made ( over looked that one, doh! )

Cheers for the comments boys ill be sure to keep you all updated :thumb:

Actually it's not so expensive to do by my self. I got 158m2 garage with my mate's and we have tool's for it. :D And we got our own painting chamber(just last night painted my vw jetta to different colour stopped spraying at 2am)( sorry my bad english')

I have tried to ask wide arch seller's in UK can they send it to me. Cheapest kit is now about 500?. I've have noticed that firm's there aren't keen to send part's abroad:cry: .

kevo16v
31-08-06, 03:00 PM
lol no worries, well i jamilly got myself a job at a local valeting place because a good mate worked there sort of went on from there really. About 6 months later i was running the place for the owner as my mate got fed up with it. Stayed there for 3 years then started up a mobile valeting business with the same mate who got me the 1st job, been doing it ever since. Aslong as you pay attention to detail you can go wrong, pretty straight foward really.
Only down side to it i've found is that there is so many other valeters out there so your forever trying to undercut the next man which can sometimes means you have to kick yourself in the bollox to get the job and end up charging alot less than you normaly would but thats just how the motortrade works.
Don't get me wrong you can earn a very good living out of valeting IF you find the right customer base, think well off people with big executive cars who. Traders are a good way to get started, get yourself down to your local car dealership/trader and just ask them if they need anything valeted, thats what we did at the very begining and 3 & 1/2 years later im still goin.
One bit of advice word of mouth is one of the best forms of advertising ive found (especially in the valeting game), so as long as your customers are happy you should have no shortage of work.

Yeah it wasn't that bad really. I had a set of 7.5x15s on it for a while so i got the arches rolled well before i brought them, they did rub a bit on the inner arch.
The old wheels were a 7x17 with a 45mm offset, the new wheels are a 7.5x18 with a 40mm offset. I've got some 6mm spacers for the back as it was a bit close on the inner arch.
It was running on 40mm springs but im thinking of trying some 60's this time round.
It was a vauxhall colour, europa blue pearl can't remember the paint code though. Should have it somewhere, ill see if i can dig it out.

Alright all, not been able to get on recently due to a fooked computer. Having to use my mobile at the mo so i cant update any pics of the nova. Ive had nothing but grief from the painters, but they've finally decided to pull their fingers out and get it finished for the 20th of this month. Shame it taken them over 5 months get it done! Hoping to have the engine and interior in by the new year. Will get some more pics up soon.

What plans do you have for the interior?

Need to go Leather/Alcantara!

kevo16v
10-11-06, 05:39 PM
well ive already got a black gsi dash & the install from before, thats trimmed in alcantara so all i need is to get my seats done. Also got to put a roof lining in as the painters decided to rip mine out. Ive got one out of a mk2 sr, should do nicely as a template. Really want an alcantara roof lining!

Right finally go it back on monday, since then fitted the door & tailgate handles, sunroof, front/back lights, started to fit the roof lining but hit a bit of a snag when i realised the painters had ****ed the clip in the middle of the sunroof that holds the middle bar up leaving me to find a way to keep it up there..... sugestions welcome!!!!!! Also waxoil'd everything in sight as well as giving it a polish. still got a **** load of slurry from the flat and ploishing on the tyres.... fecking stuburn stuff!!!! Still got feck loads to do, hoping to have it on the road by mid january but not holding my breath as im expecting loads more hic ups along the way!

Hello peeps hope u all had a good xmas! Got a bit further on the nova, got the roof lining in now, was alot easier than i thought it would be. Apart from finding that the little white clip that holds the middle bar up had been snapped by the painters when they took the old lining out. Just got to sort out the bit around the sunroof as it got a bit creased.
All the back windows are back in, looks almost like a car now!!
Stumbled across amother problem when it came to fitting the back bumper as the rear quaters have been replaced the painters didnt think to offer the bumper to the car to check it fitted.....MONKEYS!!!!!! Leaving me to cut chunks out of my freshly painted shell. Dash, carpets & seats are next to go back in which ill hopefully do over the weekend. I'll get some updated pics up as soon as.
cheers for looking

not usullay a fan of flip paints but yours hits the spot fella, the blue/green looks awsome and no to much or a drstic colour change, and seems to have been applied properly, have seen so many where the painter is clueless and ends up cloudy and patchy! really nice mate am quite jealous!

To say ive over spent would be the understatement of the decade so ive decided not to go with the full monty rebuild of the engine just yet. Just goin to replace the cambelt + tensioners & an uprated head gasket this way i can finally get it out of the workshop and onto the road this side of xmas 2008!!

So the new plan is that the nova is getting shipped off to my good mate Tom at TCS in birchanger essex next friday. Not sure on how long he'll have it for but once he's finished its straight back to Evolve for them to finish off the exterior. Then its time for the mot etc...
Should be able to get some more pics up next week.
Thanks for looking

At the moments its still an empty shell so they do look abit ott, once everything id back on/in it things should look more in proportion.
At the end of the day its how i want it, not building it to please anyone else.

Hello one and all, been a while since the last update but im glad to report that she's finally got an engine in her!!! Not had it running yet but theres an engine in there!

Had a few **** ups over the last few months..... main one being the let engine i had brought was ****ed, the bottom end was completely hammered rendering it useless. Didnt have enuff to buy another let so used my old xe bottom end. The next problem was i couldnt find let pistons, searched high and low for weeks but gave up and brought some over sized ones and had the block bored out to a 2.1 which cost me far too much lol

Just waiting on getting the 90 degree elbows for the t'intercooler and sourcing some fuel lines and she should be good to go.
I thought it was tight with the xe but this one is well and truly shoe horned in!!

Lovely car mate, the paint works really well, and i like the subtle wide arches, alot better than those stupidly massive things like the mattig kit, hows it progressing at the moment then? just a case of putting it all back together? what seats are you going to put in it then?

Also fitted the front screen and gave the interior a good valet. Would be nice to get the engine running within the next few weeks, just a case of gathering the last few odds and sods.

Thanks bud. I think for now the exterior is done, apart from a nice set of mudlfaps to save the paintwork & the odd bit of tidying here and there.....mainly the drivers door bracket/catch as its making the door sit way too far out.
Thinking of fitting the rear seats back in aswell, feel a bit old to have a car full up with speakers... plus will save me a fair bit of weight as the install is heavy as fook!

Finally the ball is rolling!! All of the intercooler pipe work turned up today, along with the alloy rad. Me being impatient as usual i couldn't wait to get it fitted.

The only things left to get are a new set of engine mounts - possibly the metal group a jobs, a dizzy cap and rotor arm, plugs and leads. I also need to make up the mini loom for the icv and knock sensor, as my loom never came with one.
Somewhere inbetween all of that i've got to sort the brakes too, don't fancy over looking that one lol

Cheers to all for the comments, you'd be surprised how it spurs you on when enthusiasm is running low lol

Started off yesterday evening by making myself a to-do list..... a very long to-do list :D i've got a memory like a siv and i don't trust myself to remember everything.

As for real progress on the car, nothing pic worthy im affraid. All vacuum(sp) pipes are connected, the rad is fitted and the water system is all hooked up all but the turbo pipe to the top of the rad.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v688/kevo16v/28082008132.jpg

The air filter pipe is on..... after some total butchery of the slam panel, Will have to tidy that up at some point!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v688/kevo16v/28082008136.jpg

Next on the list is the last of the wiring, not much left really just the starter, alternator, oil pressure guage, speed sensor and 1st gear switch.... which leads to my next question..... Im running a f20 box, has no plug for it what do i do with it?

Also having to make up my own mini loom for the ICV and knock sensor as mine didnt come with the other end to the 5 pin connector, ive got a plug to fit the ICV and an early knock sensor (with plug) just been having trouble identifying the wires. Think ive got it sussed (correct me if im totally wrong) -

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v688/kevo16v/28082008137.jpg

ICV - Red/Blue
Brown/Red

KNOCK SENSOR - Brown/Black
Brown/White
Black - am i right in thinking this is a gound?

Hoping to get another good run tonight and hopefully next post will have it nearly ready to fire up.
Thanks for looking and any help regarding the wiring would be very much appreciated :thumb:

Got to change the oil pressure switch aswell, only has one connection coming off it could have sworn my old xe had 2 - one for oil light & for the oil pressure on the dash???? could possibly be wrong about this though.

Thats the spirit bud i like your thinking.

As for your first gear switch could you not run it to a driver usable switch in the car as a mate did this on his cav turbo so he could drive normally or turn the switch off so as to run full boost in first for dragway launches, lil bit more work but im sure it beats leaving the odd bit or bob unplugged!

i would second that f20's are rubbish ate 4 f20's with my corsa let before i got fed up off changing 5th gear and swapping boxes and stuck an f28 in there and the best thing i didnt have any more g/box related problems

kevo16v
03-09-08, 01:01 PM
Yeah i didn't think it would last 5 mins under load. I'm watching an F28 on ebay at the mo, will have to see if funds permit it lol

Had another good night of progress last night, didn't leave the workshop till 2am :tard:.......
The wiring is now finished only thing to do is fit a switch inside the car for the first gear switch, then i double checked over the water system and vacume pipes, sorted the fuel pump so that all works now.

Also had to make up a new filler neck as the standard one was cut when it was in the paintshop.
We ended up butchering a D reg Ranger Rover for its filler neck, cut it down to size and joined it to what was left of the original nova one.
Its not the nicest looking thing in the world but its out of sight and does its job nicely.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v688/kevo16v/02092008149.jpg

Next was the pipe work form the intercooler to the turbo, was a bit of a squeeze but it finaly came together.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v688/kevo16v/02092008150.jpg

With that all done it was pretty much ready for the 1st start up, by this time i was kacking my pants big time lol

I've been a bit worried as its never been run before that it wouldn't work and all the time & money i put into it was about to go bang.
This was mainly due to the fact that the bloke who built the engine originaly and who was spose to fit it is a tool and has a track record for funking up jobs...... Happened to 2 friends cars he had worked on while he had mine, it was the main reason i ended up taking the car back and getting it checked over by someone with a better rep.

Short vid of the 1st start up, exuse the smoke we dropped a little bit of oil down the bores to lube them up a bit as its been sitting for so long.
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v688/kevo16v/?action=view&current=03092008006-001.flv

As nothing ever goes smoothly it started pissing water from the thermostat housing, on further inspection the o ring is knackered.

Needless to say im over the moon, its been 3 years since its had a running engine in it :D

Im hoping to have the last of the loose ends tied up by the end of the week so it can go for an mot some point next week :thumb:

Not had much chance to make a great deal of progress over the last week. I've got to get a new oil feed pipe for the turbo, so thats halted the plan of getting it running again

Decided to lower it a bit more as it looks like a scared cat. I've had what i thought was a set of 60mm springs sitting about for ages so i thought i'd give them a go......

Before with 40mm springs

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v688/kevo16v/10092008156.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v688/kevo16v/10092008161.jpg

After with 60mm springs

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v688/kevo16v/10092008163.jpg

And one with some extra weight on the rear

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v688/kevo16v/10092008162.jpg

Looks as if theres plenty of clearance but won't know for sure if theres any rubbing untill i drive it.

Will get some pics of the front up tomorrow hopefully, we sheared the head off one of the shock bolts so decided to give up for the night.

Untill next time......... cheers for looking :thumb:

I thought i was one of the lucky few who had no ecu light flashing away at them the 1st time they ran their lets......... How wrong was i lol On closer inspection of the digi dash theres was no blub in there to light up........ FAIL....... What a tool lol

So this evening i've mainly been chasing fault codes and replacing sensors along the way  Great fun, faults so far....
13 - Oxygen Sensor (O2S)- no Voltage change -
31 - Engine Speed (RPM) sensor - no signal
49 - Battery Supply Voltage - high
92 - Camshaft position (CMP) sensor - incorrect signal
94 - Camshaft position (CMP) sensor - Voltage high

So far i've replaced the lamba sensor and camshaft position sensor, next job is to change the alternator and "borrow" a crank sensor of a mate. Hopefully should cure it :thumb:

Another small update....... No more fault codes, changing the alternator seems to have done the trick and turned the ecu light out. Insted of there being 12v at the battery there was 16v.

Also changed the coolant temp sensor as it was overfueling like a good'un, instant improvement in how it ran. Idled steadily without any spluttering and didn't reak of fuel.

A little bit confused as to why iv'e got no rev counter. Im using the lcd clocks from an astra gte (same ones used when it ran the xe) When the ignition is switched on the clocks do their thing and it goes up and down, so i know the display works. The green wire is going into the back of them but still showing nothing once its running, would a knackered crank sensor be causing this??? Any ideas/info muchly appreciated :thumb:

Thanks in advance Kev

camshaft sensor didnt know let's had them! lol anyways good project this like the car and for some reason the flip paint and the big wheels work really well if it were a normal colour probably wouldnt work as well as it does! thumbs up love chasing fault codes

Has been a bit dead today at work so i decided to to a bit more on the car.

Fitted the brake servo back into place ready for the new brake lines, going to make a start on bending them up tonight. Seems as if i've saved all the ****hole jobs till last:wtf:
Fitted the strutbrace aswell, turns out its nice fit :thumb:

Whats left to do to it?

kevo16v
07-10-08, 05:51 PM
Cheers mate. Not much left on the to-do list now, mainly purchase and fit a slimline fan, replace the brake lines front + back and stop the exhaust from blowing.
Then its just a case of tidying up the wiring, finding somewhere to mount my guages and putting the dash back together again. Once all thats done its pretty much ready for an mot.

I have the opportunity to see this Nova in the flesh and i can guarantee that this one is one hell of a Nova (and i only saw it stopped...i can imagine when it rolls out of the workshop ;) ).

Kev, keep us updated with all news about it and keep it up.

OFFTOPIC: Nice to meet you m8. You're the one. Hope to meet again in the future.

nuno_gt - OFFTOPIC: Nice to meet you m8. You're the one. Hope to meet again in the future.

You too matey, your welcome anytime. Good to see you've got a project tread going aswell :thumb:

Small update......

Found myself a fan, got straight around to fitting it as i still haven't run it up to temp yet. It sat ticking over for a good 15-20 mins with it blowing and it sat bang on the half way mark of the temp gauge. I've also got a 7" bike fan which i'd like to put on the other side of the rad just to make sure. All seems to be well :thumb:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v688/kevo16v/15102008258.jpg

Im hoping to be able to take it for a test run by the end of the week so next on the list of random jobs was to finally fit the front panel.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v688/kevo16v/15102008252.jpg

Next is to secure the bonnet.....

Plan A is to use the original bonnet catch and release as im not too keen on bonnet pins or cutting holes in the bonnet. My only worry is that it wont line up properly and the bonnet will sit either on the wonk or too high.... In a worse case scenario both lol

Plan B is to source some flush fit bonnet pins and take it back to the bodyshop and let them do the cutting. Quite like the idea of these as they are lockable and wouldnt look too bad.

Will have another look at it tonight.

Random pic of it back together at the end of the night...

nuno_gt
15-10-08, 07:05 PM
Well, i may choose Plan A because of the cutting to to the bonnet and the exclusive paintwork you have on it.

When you get it ready, i'd like to see it rolling on the road.

Another update.....

After 3 years it finallly moves under its own steam :D

Finished the brakes off last night and then spent this morning checking over everything before i took it for its 1st outing.

Short vid of the 1st steps.....
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v688/kevo16v/?action=view&current=16102008020-001.flv

The rear needs raising as it scrubs on the arches, just about to fit the old 40mm springs to see if it makes any odds.
Going to look into some stiffer rear shocks i think.

Next is to get it ready for an mot, hopefully wont be too long before its out.

Random pic.....

Its still not on the road lol ....... Had an issue with the pressure relief valve being stuck open.
Spent most of sunday trying to fish out the relief valve but it wasn't having any of it, so i decided to get a new pump.

That arrived today along with some new oil and a filter, so hoping to have it running again by this evening.

Thought i'd post up some progress of a couple of other novas that belong to a mate who shares the unit with me.......

First off is this one
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v688/kevo16v/23102008295.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v688/kevo16v/23102008296.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v688/kevo16v/23102008299.jpg

It started out as a poverty spec 1ltr Trip and as you can see from the pics was mid xe conversion.
The plan is to remove the engine and fit a 1.3sr lump into it, replace slam panel, fit replacement wings, change bootlid, fit a very clean sr interior into it, give it a damn good valet and eventually sell it.

Engine out....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v688/kevo16v/23102008302.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v688/kevo16v/23102008305.jpg

Replacement engine
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v688/kevo16v/23102008309.jpg

Next on the list
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v688/kevo16v/23102008300.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v688/kevo16v/23102008301.jpg

The plan for this one is to fit the xe lump, swap suspension with the spax kit on the white one, fit new front wings, possibly a gsi front bumper and more than likely a respray.

To be honest i think he should keep the xe in the white one but i guess the van is a bit different.

Will post up some progress as it happens :thumb:

Talk about make me want to come up there! When yours going to be on the road then?

Your going to have to dodge all the pot holes i remember up there.

Is that 1.3 from a astra or somthing? Rad hoses look like it came from a truck lol

Was just thinking about droping you a pm, im in need of some bits, but im short cash again!

kevo16v
29-10-08, 02:16 PM
I need it on the road asap as my van has finally died, leaving me funked for transport :(
lol @ the pot hole comment, its a 100x worse now. Took me 10 mins to get the nova off the farm when i last took it out.

Just inquired and the the engine was taken from a cav, not an original 1.3sr lump.

AlexW
29-10-08, 04:09 PM

When my brother came up last time, he said that the potholes knocked out the radio and made a mess of the cleaning stuff i had in the boot.

Well the time finally came to get rid of the install. Had it with no rear seats for a few years now & seeing as i've got a little man due in march i thought it would be best to pull my finger out and get the interior back in (i think the other half will prefer if he's strapped in lol)

Since i've had it back on the road i've hardly listen to the sterio so it seemed a bit stupid to be carrying all that extra weight for nothing.

Anywho got busy last night ripping it all out.... This is how it looked before i started

hi mate did u change the oil pump with the engine in ive got to do mine just wondering what it was like to do in sit-u got the same problem relief valve sticking

kevo16v
01-12-08, 03:16 PM
Yes mate, engine was in when i changed the pump. The cambelt, bottom pully, sump and oil pick up need to be removed to get at the oil pump. Wasn't as bad as thought it was going to be.

Have you got a oil pressure guage fitted? If not its definatly worth getting.

dj_wudgey
01-12-08, 03:41 PM
looks good matey!! dont usually like wide kits and stuff but looks good definately beter without the sterio and all that crap though i hate instals with a pasion weighs to much!! i dont even like having sterios in my car nice panel to blank the hole in tha dash!!!

novaxe235
01-12-08, 07:49 PM
yeah i have a pressure gauge fitted and a nylon relief valve in the pump it is a new pump (genuine from vauxhall) but it still sticks only when left for weeks though.shame really as the engine has just been dynoed/optimised and verniers have been dialed in .i know u can mark them up but it is'nt as accurate as having it optimised on a dyno

Long time no update, Mainly due to me being lazy and not doing much to it over the last few months.

Finally got around to getting it on the rolling road on saturday, wasn't quite sure what to expect figure wise as i knew the actuator was a bit week and its only holding 10 psi at the mo but ended up happy never the less.

It ran 233.4 bhp which isn't bad for a starting figure, will give me something to improve on over the coming months.
The fuel pressure could do with upping a bit as its a bit low, will be looking into an uprated pump and maybe an adjustable fuel pressure reg.

Anywho time for some pic whoring :thumb:
