is it possible to take the turbo unit and manifold from a 1.5TD nova and stick it onto say, a 1.4 or 1.6 nova? does anyone know what pressure the 1.5TD unit runs at? it would be a good experiment anyhow :-)

I read some where that some bloke put a turbo on his 1.4, he used a turbo from a r5 gt turbo & a cav desiel intercooler. I can't remember where I read it though.

I saw the same as you Dan, I think it was on this site, but it might have been before the latest update, so I'm not sure if it's still on here somwhere. A 1.4 turbo would be nice :)

If i remember rightly Ian Storey might know something about a guy who does these conversions quite cheap. But he probably won't be on here tonight. Difficult choice though standard GSI or 1.4 Turbo hmmmm.

a choice between turbo or not, hmmmmmmm definately a turbo, so you can fit a dump valve and watch peoples heads turn as you change gear!!!!!

That means ringing Adrian Flux again and getting another quote.

I asked someone on here about it. They used a 1.6 engine, sandwhich plate to drop the compression, mahle? pistons, r5 turbo. He had to take it to courtney to get it running right though, but it`s worth it if you can be bothered.

dont those diesel turbos run on 7 or8psi? dont think youd see an improvement from your carb.
I like the idea of a R5 turbo on a 14SR, bet that motor shifts

courtney do a turbo conversion for the 1.4 sri makes about 120 bhp costs ?2500

For 120 bhp you might as well stick a 1.6 on with the injection unit and a full exhaust system, 57i kit and cam. Less than half the price and no turbo lag!

Yeah but you could get a gsi and slap a turbo on it... ooooooooh you'd be looking at about 150bhp!!... nice!

Well spoke to adrian flux. I'll be sticking with a GSI, no dump valve sounds this year. I'll have to try for a turbo on the 1.6 next year.

yes but does anyone know if the 1.5TD manifold and turbo unit will bolt straight onto a 1.4 or 1.6 head ?!?!?!?

If the diesal turbo runs at 7-8 psi, wont it run at a higher boost on a petrol engine due to the engine revving higher??
Just a thought.......

u could put the turbo on from the diesel but the manifold dont fit. i know this cause ive got a 1300 sr and a td nova, although i can say i thought of that idea aswell.the boost runs at about 7-8 psi but its the actuator that controls that ,so that can be changed abyway.not that ud want to because much more boost than that would completely wreck the engine after time.
ASLO WHY GOTO ALL THE TROUBLE OF TURBOING A GSI WHEN I KNOW SOMEONE WHOS AS A 1L NOVA TURBO`D WITH A R5 CARB AND HAS ABOUT 160BHP,AND CAN QUITE EASILY GET 180BHP.!!!!!!

If you are looking for a turbo comes off a vauxhall and will fit on a nova then you should be looking at the one off a 1.7 td astra van.

This is quoted by garrett as suitable for 1-1.6 petrol engines.

As far as I remember it was a t-15 would still have to custom make the exhast manifold.

And i guess it would be easiest to grab the carb off a r5, though I do seen to remember that weber do a carb suitable to turboing a nova.

Don't have the details though so please don't ask.

Was thinking of doing this to my 1.4 sr but have not had time to look into doing it fully yet.

would definatly need the spacer though to drop the compression

courtney do a turbo conversion for the 1.4 sri makes about 120 bhp costs ?2500

might aswell get a 2.0 l turbs and pull out all the stops
