Does anybody know how to go about doing a rear disk conversion. It is one thing I would like to do to my GSi in a couple of months, but I haven't got a clue what is involved or what parts to buy. Is there any welding that needs doing or any parts that need to be made? any help would be appreciated. cheers

You need to remove the whole stub axles, then cut/grind the welds from the square axle mounting plate. Then you need to weld on some new plates with the astra stub axle hole patern. I made the new plates but I think you can buy them from a company called carquip? You will also have to modify the handbrake cable.

Brake bias valve. Very Very important. If the brake bias is left standard you will end up dizzy everytime you slam on the brakes.

You could try Regal Auto's on 02380 791000 or BAT Motorsport on 0151 709 8585.
If the pricings the same as with engine conversions they will be almost 50% cheaper.

I take it that it is not worth attempting if you can't weld!!!!!

If the weldings the only problem, get an engineering firm to do it for you; cheaper than the whole job.

Its not needed reallt unless u have a turb or a 2.0 coz then back of a nova is so light its just gona lock up with disks!

I know you don't need them but disks all round looks bloody nice (like most mods really). As for the rears locking up thats why i recommended the brake bias valve.

I have spoken to loads of people about rear disk conversions and most have said it is unnecessary, but I don't care!! I want them to look cool and shine nicely behind the rear wheels!!!! I will wait until it is warmer before attempting anything though!!

I've got access to all the parts. My mates MK3 Astra GSI got written off. I'll do it later on this year, but the bodywork, ice and interior are before it on my list. I wonder how much courtenay charge if you've already got the parts? Probably ?330 LOL.

You could get a spare rear beam from the scrappers to work on. Then it won't matter if you mess it up. If you make your own plates for the end of the axle make sure they are the same thikness as the old plates or you may cause yourself problems with tyre clearances. I havn't tested the brake bias on my car yet, but Micky Owens runs 2.0 16v front and rear brakes and he rekons with this set up you don't need the bias valve?
