After all of you guys said you had been getting quotes i decided to do some research. I sent the following email to NU:

"Do you insure modified cars, e.g. with lowered suspension / alloy
wheels etc

Are there any modifications you do not insure and is there a minimum
age for insuring these?

I am finding many companys will only insure over 25s with
modifications......

Please Advise
Many Thanks
Will Burchell"

The reply i received interested me some what:

"Dear Mr Burchell,

Thank you for your email.

We do insure modified cars , however it does depend on what you are
having done .

We only cover up to the maximum of 3 modifications, we will cover
for example alloy wheels, lowered suspension , skirt, spoiler. We do not
cover any engine modifications and there is no age restriction on this.

You will not be able to get a quote on line if you have had any
modifications , please contact us on 0800 888 111 and we will run through a quote with you.

I hope this helps .

Be careful if you have "lots" of mods as you may not be covered from what i see. Also for those of you who are currently insured / looking to get quotes it may be an idea to get them to clarify what they do and dont insure. e.g. air filters and exhausts :) :thumb:

Good work Will... I've noticed some places like Admiral and Elephant, who have the option of adding mods in their online quote system, refuse to quote if you have more than three mods ticked - could be the same reasoning as above

Hmm, is an engine conversion classed as a engine modification. hmm

Hmm, i might try HIC or Flux for my renewal this year.
Aged 19, 1yrs NCb, driving for 2yrs.
A Gte engine in my shell shouldn't cost me too much if they will cover me.

IMHO Adrian Flux are the best out there for Heavily Modified Cars. Be it engine transplants one off builds and such like. They were one of few companys to quote below a grand for my second car! (205 1.6GTI 17"s, Lowered, Cam'd, Ported N Polished all declared. I was 20 with no NCB)

Norwich Union seem pretty good at the moment for most people with couple of mods tho.

I seem to remember then happily agreeing to take ?15 EXTRA a month to insure my car with a Magnex exhaust added:roll:

I'll say no more...
