Hi People, had such good results doing this thought I'd better share it.
This is a guide on how to sand blast a C20XE, LET etc engine block, without totally ****ing your internal surfaces or for that matter getting any grit etc in your oil galleries.
Hopefully this will stop a few of those posts appearing saying 'my blocks oily/rusty/dirty and cant be bothered going at it with a wire wheel' and quite rightly so; there cunts of things to clean.
At present I've done 3 blocks, the results speak for themselves.
Firstly, I dipped the block in acid and gave it a good pressure wash, this just gets all the old oil and ****e out of the inside of the block; galleries etc. don’t worry about the outside just now. I used cold water pressure washer but hot water would be ideal; you can buy a decent one for around £3000 J ha-ha.
Few ways of dipping the block DIY style,
1. Drop it in ½ a 45 Gallon drum of caustic soda / water, you can buy a 25kg bag of this for about £20 which is plenty. My dad uses this to strip paint of doors so not entirely sure where he gets it.
2. 3. Have it dipped at Surface Processing Limited, very expensive; especially if you live where I do with postage on top.
4. Lastly, I had my block dipped in acid at a workshop beside my work. I can't really give you much more info on this as he wouldn’t tell me what was in the tank, probably because it's illegal, all I know is it's a methanol based acid and stinks. If any knows anything about this put a post up???

Once you've got the block dipped, washed and dried, the next step is to mask it off for blasting (masking tape will not do for this bit btwJ). This is the most time consuming bit of the whole job, and just so you’re aware I used the following tools / machines,
Wood work machinery - planer, bandsaw, jigsaw, router & belt sander.
Materials,
Wood
Neoprene (rubber sheeting)
Glue
Pipe (as washers for the head studs as I didn’t have short ones)
Jubilee clips
Bolts & Washers
1/2" NPT Plug for the turbo oil drain.
Anyway I'll let the pics do the talking,
(blocked off all oil galleries just to be on the safe side)

The wood is oak and has been lined with the neoprene. Use hard wood as if ur blasting it with a decent compressor pine etc goes in bits.
I made a panel for each face, pics are self explanitary.

I've now changed this end panel so the gearbox mounting face and starter motor face gets blasted to. Pics further on show this.
