im fitting a set of twin 40 carbs to a nova gsi engine.

couple of problems, how do i wire in the coil, ignition module and the 3 pin black plug on the dizzy

the ignition module has 4 pins,
the coil has 2 and the coil lead,
and the plug on the dizzy has 3.

does anyone know what i need to do to make it all work?

i have the nova gsi loom, i dont mind chopping the 3 required plugs out of it, and i dont mind making a bit of loom.

any help appreciated
also where the std inlet was, there is now a hole "vacumm"? that goes throu to the exhaust port. i guess i block this off, but want'd to make sure before i did

As far as I remember, thats the Vacume for the Brake servo. I'm sure it has to be hooked up, but not sure how.

the hole in the head that goes to the exhaust side is the EGR hole that needs blocking up

so your saying a 1.2 vacumm advance dizzy is the way to do it.?

ok. no the coil.. i guess one side is switched live, and the other is earth?

You need a carb dizzy setup. Nova gsi one is of no use.

so the vacumm advance dizzy of a 1.2 will fit?

Stuart

possibly, but ideally you want a 1.4 carbed dizzy as that will definately fit

adam-d

1.4 8v carb vacumm advance dizzy. ok ill go price one of those up.

engine code 14nz?
apparenly its a bosh item?

tom_beverley

14NV I think it is [IIRC C14NZ is the 1.4 SPi], but yes its definately a Bosch item. You will need the coil, leads and amplifier too.

Probably looking at around £100 for a new dizzy alone. I got mine from Opel Classic Parts [German eBay store].

ok thank you :)

the coil and amp, what do these requie wiring wise? are they hard to wire up?

im fairly good with electric a simple diagram and im sorted,. i wish i had a nova here to copy from lol

100 quid for a dizzy alone versus 90quid for megajolt ;)

adam-d

tell me more about this megajolt,,,,

Adam

100 quid for a dizzy alone versus 90quid for megajolt ;) MJ ends up costing a lot more though....
Needs TPS, full EDIS system, custom 36-1 trigger crank wheel, full map etc etc....
Only the initial ecu cost is cheap

EDIT-If you have a 1600 8v engine(standard cam), then the 1.2/1.3 dizzys wont fit the cam.
1.4sr (14nv will)

adam-d

penis to wireing in all that. is the megajolt the diy ecu thing ive seen?
you have to solder it all together?

and

would this coil be ok,?

all i need then is a ignition amp, and the dizzy

Nope, wrong engine. Just go to your motorfactors and quote the model [Nova 1.4SR] and engine code [14NV] and they should give you the correct one. I'm not sure but the amplifier may be included with the coil, I just mentioned it so you know there is one.

14nv, ok

if i got the dizzy, coil, ignition amp and loom from a nova with these in, it would be plug and play?

tom_beverley
24-07-08, 10:46 AM
Yes, that would probably be the easiest and cheapest method to get everything you need.

tookie

you could use the setup from any astra/cavalier with the 16sv carbed engine in ,it would be easy to come by from any scrappy ,only problem would be is there are 2 types of coil setup with the 16sv the early ones are similer to the 1.4 nova stuff and the later ones have a ecu mounted dead center on the bulkhead.

adam-d
24-07-08, 06:33 PM
so if i go for the non ecu type im sorted?
cool, ill scour the scrappys on sat

tookie

even the ecu one would do the job its just a bit more wiring .

adam-d

i think i got the ecu one, i havent a clue what i need, what i dont, and how to wire it in

this is what i got was off a carb 1.6 8v cav

the multiplug scares the crap out of me, as i dont know how to wire it in, or if its right, or if i need the red cap bosh stuff instead.
this is a pain in the ****.

tookie
26-07-08, 02:36 PM
cut the multi-plug off and connect the red to a permanent live, the black to a switched live and the brown to a earth and it should run.

adam-d
26-07-08, 02:37 PM
ive looked on my engine, and it has the same dizzy. so.
i gues if i connect up the map sensor. looking at the 2 other plugs, i connect up the coolent temp, 2 pin plug, and then give the ecu a live and earth that should be it? or am i being to simple

on the above loom i have starting and charging system, i can use the corsa one, i have reverse plug and oil pressure light and coolent temp for the dash. all those i gues i can leave off/cut out. and use the corsa stuff

any help greatly appreciated.

also..... the dizzy in the pic is the same on my engine, would a earlyer bosh-redcap dizzy bolt right upto my engine?
as the bosh system seem much simpler.

adam-d
26-07-08, 02:39 PM
ok tookie thanks, so on the multiplug i connect those 3 wires to the corsa loom, "i think it has them on a 3 pin plug aswell"

i use the 2 pin coolent temp and map senor and octane plug as the ecu may need those for metering. but apart from that im done?
cool. ill try that

tookie
26-07-08, 03:06 PM
yeah keep the stuff you said and cut the rest out of the loom, you might want to keep the green wire thats seperate from the multi-plug as thats for the rev counter.

adam-d
26-07-08, 03:26 PM
i can tag the rev counter direct off the coil i think.
i have a black, black/red and brown
i guess these 3 are the live's and earths. im not sure either the black is live, or swiched same with black red.

i found a thin black with yellow trace too. on the cav it went to the carb some random couple of what loom like vacumm unit things. but i stripped the loom down and it joins onto the reverse plug loom. so ive no idea what its for.

tookie
26-07-08, 03:42 PM
the black with red stripe is for the starter motor u wont need that you can use the one from the corsa loom,if u strip the loom back far enough all the reds are joint together once you've found where they join just chop out the thick ones that would of gone to the starter and alternator, the black with yellow stripe was for the auto choke on the cav so you don't need that, the random wires that run into the reverse plug are for the radiator fan nd the switch for it you can chop them out aswell and use the corsa ones, hope this has helped.

adam-d
26-07-08, 04:13 PM
ok on the multiplug i have found 1 black and one brown,.
the only red i can find running upto the ecu, cuts into the battery main live, in the middle of the loom by the main live for the starter. now as im cutting this out, i can just extend that to a power source and thats it im done?

tookie
26-07-08, 04:40 PM
yeah just extend it to the permanent live that you want to use.
