i know that is the cheaper option but a x16xe turbo would be more fun and better handling?the reason i askd this is because iv spent way to much on my xe and im regreting not building the 16 16v turbo to be a bit diferant aswel.

the xe will be more reliable over time...

whats the current state of tune of your XE? if you.ve spent loads on mods then you'll need to spend loads on the 1.6 to match the power

why would an x16xe turbo handle better?

they are thinking of the less weight burgo... In actual fact it would be a ******* mid corner if the Booooooooost Ya kicked in.

But, on that yo got Boooooooost so all is good...

yes i know they were hinting at the weights but they seem to neglect the fact they have a heavy ass turbo hanging off the front plus all the extra piping, intercooler and liquids that go with having a turbo. i recon it would end up weighing more

If the low CR 16XE pistons were available off the shelf for sensible money, I'd have built a 16XE turbo by now. Thats the issue with them tbh.

For that reason alone you can discount that option from your list.

I say XE on TB's if wanting to do track work, otherwise for a drag or modified street car, get a lter Z-let & run it on standalone. No one has really done it yet, its entirely doable & the lumps arent that expensive considering nearly all C-lets are old & past it.

They are available Craig.

JE etc can make them.

I agree with burgo on this, a 16xe is similar weight to a xe oiriginally, after fitting a turbo/ic/pipework/oil cooler etc, probably have to run a big block fly/clutch/box too if your running good power/torque. It would weight more than a xe.

JE would cahrge a fortune for them, I enquired with a few well known piston manufacturers a few years back & no one was interested in making up any without even mentioning prices.

16XE weighs a lot less than its big block counterpart......

The weight difference is a lot less than people think IMO
Probably 20ish kg

Xe all day long, more reliable/cheaper. If it blows you can replace it for £250 quite easily, which can certainly not be said for an let!
